Watermelon Picnic

Watermelon Picnic         Acrylic on panel         20" x 22"
Ok, here I go again with trying to be diligent in re-organizing my studio space. And that means I am offering another painting and a big discount. This was painted from a setup I put together on our back deck one sunny day. It was fun and direct and I really got into the juicy paint here. However, if I want to keep painting, I have to make more room!  Click Here for a better view and price on the Daily Painters site.

Long Reach

Long Reach                                 oil on linen panel             6" x 8"
Here's a smaller painting for today using a limited palette of Y Ochre, Cad Red medium, Cerulean Blue, and black and white. It's starting to snow here, so this is both from memory and an old photo. Maybe it will bring a summer memory for one of you out there.

Foxglove

Foxglove                oil on linen panel                16" x 8"
Foxglove is a flower that has long branches with numerous little bell shaped flowers on them. I painted this in August and then, in the way of all things in an unscheduled summer, it just didn't ever get posted! Hope you enjoy a bit of summer color now.

Before Dark

Before Dark                    8" x 8"                      oil on linen panel
This is one of those low key paintings where taking a picture gets to be more difficult than painting it.......just about.  It's done on an oil primed linen that has a portrait smooth finish. I used thin layers and glazes to build the feeling of dark, but with subtle color. It's an unusual way for me to work, but I find trying new approaches now and then keeps my mind fresh for the next painting.

Catch Of The Day

Catch Of The Day          8" x 8"      oil on linen panel
I had a lot of fun with swirling color today and tried to capture that late day/early evening feel here. I got so caught up in it, there were at one point about 3 different areas of interest. Eventually I reminded myself of my initial idea and I found my 'catch of the day'

Peony Floral and Another Studio Sale

Peony Floral                   16" x 20"                     oil on linen panel
I mentioned  previously, that due to re-arranging and totally cleaning out my studio, I will periodically have a painting offered at a very reduced price in the weeks to come. Here is my second offering ( the first has sold) which is a floral that I felt was very successful in it's movement and soft light.  See it at the link below.

Ranier Park View, Little Tahoma

Ranier Park View      10" x 8"          oil on linen
From the visitor's center in Ranier National Park, you can turn one direction to see Mt. Ranier and in the windows opposite, there is another peak which also takes center stage. The view is like a postcard and framed perfectly. So, today I will leave you with this postcard view of Little Tahoma.

Hens & Chicks

Hens & Chicks                  8" x 10"               oil on linen panel
I haven't painted chicks in a very long time, so here you go.....no it's not spring yet, but the weather is mild here and I saw chickens running around in a pen just a few blocks away. This week temps are in the 40's and I've (almost) forgotten shoveling snow last week!

A Good Year

A Good Year      8" x 6"          oil on linen panel
This is another painting where I worked out of a dark mass. As with my last post, I played with color that really popped against the cooler darks but used a little softer contrast in this one. Regardless of method, I just love painting grapes...these are a pic from a wine tour a couple years ago.

Geranium Mix

Geranium Mix                       9" x 12"                        oil on linen
I don't typically work by starting out with a dark background, but I did here with these bight geraniums and marigolds against dark umber. It was a  fun change and it gave me some ideas for working this way again with more structure in the composition.

Jewel Toned Floral

Jewel Toned Floral     oil on stretched canvas      36" x 18"
I am posting an older painting today. One that I have always liked, but my style has changed and I've been looking back on previous works. I am currently cleaning and changing my entire studio set up, so will periodically have some of these paintings at very reduced prices in the weeks to come. It's 3 ft. by 18".

Celebration Floral

Celebration Floral               10" x 8"                      oil on linen
I worked today on this 'scraper' from last week which I never got around to actually scraping off. Believe it or not, it used to be even busier than it is now! I thought I had taken a picture of it and was going to post a 'before' and 'after' shot, but when I went to find the' before' it was nowhere to be found :(   What I worked with today was bringing many shapes together. I was pleased with the overall warm color harmony against the grays here,

Holding On!

Holding On                   10" x 8"          oil on linen panel
I hold the record this week for 'scrapers' and I was getting soooo frustrated that even cleaning the house seemed better! Ok, not really, but I just kept hacking away at it day after day and then the light dawned and the blinders came off! When I think back to why I was having such a bad time, it had a lot to do with not massing my shapes and every composition looked liked about 5 different ideas running into each other. At any rate, I like this one and I'm still holding on :)

A Painting Review

Well it has been a most frustrating time in getting my head back into the painting mode. This happens sometimes after being away from my easeI, and I told my husband it is like painting with a blindfold over my eyes! I know many of you, who are artists will understand. Tomorrow, I will finally post a new painting (yay) but for now, here is a slideshow of a few 2013 favorites, some of which are still available.
