Box Canyon Reds

Box Canyon Reds               acrylic on linen              6" x 8"
This is another of the many views from our trip to Montana. This was taken about mid-morning and the light was changing at every turn. I mentioned yesterday that I've been thinking of using acrylic for smaller works and decided to put that into practice today.

Mary when I first visited this painting I had no idea is was done in acrylics. I just noticed and loved the bold, sure strokes. I started with acrylics and now am hooked on oil but I need to remember there is a place for all. Especially traveling. Beautiful painting.

Love the light hitting that bit of water. Gorgeous cool next to the cliff.

A super looking painting, Mary! I've been considering doing more in acrylic. Did you use any additives in
this one? I've also been checking out the Sta Wet. What brand do you have?

Thanks all! Dean- I do use Liquitex ultra matte medium mixed in with the color. It makes it nice to handle and slightly more opaque. Right now I use the Masterson Sta Wet, but I also use a dollar store plastic box with a fitted lid that works just as well for smaller set ups. Here's a nice link http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=fvwp&v=AuSmRbLaOT4&NR=1

that shows how to make one of your own and I'm sure there are probably others. I'll post this info on Sat. with my next painting too.
