Good News - reading, figure, letters

Good News                    oil on linen                      8"x 8"
When was the last time you got a letter instead of an email? My friend Judy writes great letters and I know she still has a pen pal with whom she has corresponded for years. It's a nice and personal touch, and I applaud those of you who still write letters. Something I would hate to see go away.

Apple Impression - Verifying you are a Human! apple tree garden painting

Apple Impression    8" x 6"     oil
Today's painting is my idea of just driving by the apple trees that are evident now, without stopping to look at detail. These are just the lovely contrasting colors, in motion.......

I have a question for fellow bloggers today as well. Virginia Floyd, a fellow artist and blogger, mentioned in a comment on my last post that she was having a terrible time with " verify you are a human" when she tried to leave a comment. Her frustration was evident and soooooo familiar! For those of you who don't know, this is the jumble of words and letters that you have to re-type which cuts down on spam. I have tried turning off this feature and every time I do, I get many weird spams left on my posts. How do those of you who have this feature turned off deal with it??

New Crop - first of the season apple paintings and OPA

New Crop   oil      8" x 8"
It's the time of year I am starting to see the wonderful color of apples in dappled light. I continue to just love their ornamental effect against warm and cool green leaves. They are an exciting part of the garden color that is so prevalent right now. Another bit of excitement for me today is that I just found out that my painting "White Roses" was accepted to the Western Regional Oil Painter's of America show in Denver. A good day!

Hollyhock Mini- small oil floral

Hollyhock Mini  oil  3"x 6 "
I think this is actually the smallest painting I have ever done! I just couldn't toss even this size of a beautiful New Traditions linen panel that I love painting on! And, what better than these old fashioned Hollyhocks in the best salmon pinks ever :)

Tropical Dream - an ocean view through the palms

Tropical Dream                         oil                         9" x 9"
I am back online and happy to be in touch again. The last couple days I have been working on a floral commission, but wanted to take a little time to work up this smaller view of cool blue ocean. When I think of vacationing in tropical climates, it seems that the picture in my mind is always framed with palms. So, here is a look through the branches and out to blue sky and a happy warm horizon.

Another Street In Stockholm - Sweden, shopping,

Another Street In Stockholm      oil            8" x 10"
Once again, our internet non-connection has prevented me from visiting all the wonderful new work that I want to admire from so many of the artists I follow. And, of course I am prevented from posting too often, though I have a little window right now. This is a second street view from Sweden and my sister's creative eye. I loved the couple walking arm in arm and maybe not headed toward any particular place. I am actually preparing to work larger in the next week or so and hopefully will be able to post results. I may be out of touch, but still thinking of all my friends in cyberspace.

A Street In Stockholm - bicycles, and color in Sweden

A Street In Sweden               oil           9"x 7"
We've had a very on-again, off-again net connection this past week which is so frustrating! But, I will try to get this posted fast, before it's off-again..... This is from a reference my sister shot when her family was in Stockholm and she has a great eye for color and composition. Needless to say, it was fun and....aaaarrgggghhh! .. gotta go... I see the 'unable to connect' bars flashing again :(

River Roses - red rose floral

River Roses                  9" x 7"            oil on linen
I wanted to have another chance to paint with all the wonderful red and  overlapping shapes of the roses from my last post. It started the same way, with a loose wash of red and blue.I sketched some, and worked just a bit larger in this painting.
It was just as much fun the second time!

Red At The River's Edge- roses over water

Red At The River's Edge        oil           8" x 6"
These roses hung over the water's edge and I spied them while my husband and I walked along the river in Boise. The red was intense and very dark, like a lipstick from the 50's. And, over the light blue reflections of the water, they really stood out. Very romantic!

Yellowstone Icon - Old Faithful

Yellowstone Icon   11" x 7"   oil on linen panel
I can't imagine how many times Old Faithful has provided inspiration for artists of all kinds. I saw it first when I was about 13 and it was a memorable family trip, complete with bears ( both of the gift shop and real kind)   I enjoyed it every bit as much when we went back several months ago. My goal here was to provide a landscape with that feeling of being on vacation. The crowd of people looking on, help provide that I think. If you've been there, I hope this brings back wonderful memories for you as well.

Light Path In A Dark Wood - wooded landscape & filtered light

Light Path In A Dark Wood  oil on linen    7"x 11"
I find this kind of painting one of the most difficult because there are no real hard edged shapes to 'grab'. I wanted to suggest the soft light that comes through the trees without spelling it all out, too abruptly. The tree trunks  need to be varied, so that they are interesting and still provide a  consistent vertical pattern. I also like the symbolism of being led out of a tangle and through to the light.
