Portrait Study - Redhead

Portrait Study- Redhead             oil          11" x 12"
Another portrait from last week is this redhead with green eyes. She had wonderful coloring and it was really fun to paint her. There was never enough time to really finish any of the portraits completely, but I learned a lot from each one. Tomorrow I'll post one more.

  1. J'aime la limpidité de vos portraits... Je ne sais pas si c'est parce que vous peignez si parfaitement la fraîcheur de l'eau que vous réussissez à transcrire cette même pureté tout en délicatesse dans vos portraits.
    Très joli travail.

    Gros bisous.

  3. This is a great portrait! I know that feeling of coming away from a portrait session or figure drawing session with a half-finished drawing.... I don't usually allow myself to finish them at home, because I want to see if I can improve at getting more accomplished with the live model. Once I compared a photo of the model to the model, and tried to draw from both at the same time, and the photo was quite different from what I was seeing in real life. There was less contrast in the photo and contours were not accurate. Live modeling is so much better! Have fun with your sessions!

  4. I often times prefer seeing the unfinished sketch stage of a portrait. I believe it says more about the artist and the methods used.
I really love the painterly look of this one, Mary!
