Retired Boots- Montana

Retired Boots-Montana  8x10" oil
This is just one of a whole line of boots, that are retired and resting on top of a fence line in Montana. This is an old fishing wading boot - retired now and taking it easy after many good days on the water.

Building Up II

Building Up II  14x11" oil sold
First things first,...if you are receiving my posts at your Inbox through Feedburner, please let me know if it does not show correctly. I know at least one subscriber is not receiving the image with the email, and I would like to know if it is a widespread problem. Today, I am posting a work done awhile ago, but it is familiar to what we are seeing in our Montana travels, so I thought it appropriate. I hope to have the time to set up for painting in the next day or two.

Building Up In Montana

Building Up In Montana  8x8"  oil
It's sky drama again in Montana, but the clouds just build up into beautiful formations and then subside, without storms. My focus is most assuredly the sky, but I tried here to give interest to the land without letting elements like the wildflowers, take over for this one.

We are in  the gorgeous Big Sky Country of Montana and now that the rain has stopped, there are the most beautiful skies, and landscape to enjoy. While my husband got in some fly fishing with friends, I set up and painted. This is the first of two. More tomorrow...

Priest Lake- Reeder Bay Dock

Reeder Bay Dock   acrylic   11"x14"
Priest Lake is a beautiful part of in North Idaho just a couple hours from us.This is a little spring scene that I haven't posted before, of the dock at Reeder Bay. I have occation every spring and fall to make the drive north, to deliver work to Entree Gallery, at the lake. By now  it will be filled with boats and folks getting into the summer scene.

Planting Annuals

Planting Annuals  oil  8x8"
Here's another flower planting set up, and as with yesterday's, these flowers just don't seem to want to plant themselves! I was heartened though when Catherine Jeffrey and Julie Hill both left comments giving me some leeway! I guess I'm not the only one :)

Mixed Annuals

Mixed Annuals  8x8"  oil
Of course these flats and little pots of mixed annuals should already be in the ground...but with one thing and another and the help of a very cool spring, it just hasn't happened...yet. I always like the randomness of mixed flower containers. They promise great looking flower beds and perfect containers decorating the front door, at the beginnings anyway. In my painting, they'll never droop from too much water or too little sun!

Just Turning Again

Just Turning Again 16"x12"  oil
Here is another take on my last post and is larger than some of my recent work. I played with the visual interest of filtered blue light onto the yellow green apples and liked the effect. I am planning for small plein air work in Montana around the Big Horn River in about a week. Then, larger works as time permits, once I get back home. I also just entered this one in the Bold Brush Painting Competition with FASO.

Just Turning

Just Turning  9"x9"  oil
One of the really fun things about painting fruit is color of course. And, I particularly look for that in-between stage. In this piece for example, the reds have greens in them and visa versa. It creates a harmony and yet a wonderful contrast and variety that I always enjoy working with.

Taking A Stand

Taking A Stand 7x7" oil
I can only stay away from painting chickens and roosters for so long. This guy is one of my fav's and I like the big solid stance taken here. A little attitude...ok a big attitude! Today, I set up my first auction with
Daily Paintworks and I will have selected works offered through their art auctions, for those of you who enjoy that format and maybe a bit of savings. To see my first auction, click Lemon Light in the right hand colum. This rooster will go on the auction block either tonight or tomorrow morning.

Coeur d'Alene Lake View

Coeurd'Alene Lake View 9"x9"  oil
This is my last painting from the paint outs last week and during the weekend. It was a super event and I hope to have the opportunity to attend again sometime. With the exception of some scattered showers on one day, we lucked out with the weather.

Portraits from OPA/ painting in the resort shops

Redhead in Violet  12x9   oil

Portrait in Umber  9x8" oil
Yesterday, there were three models set up for painting in the courtyard area of the Cd'A resort shops as part of OPA week. I finished the first, a lovely redhead in a violet gown and only had about 35 minutes on the second before they closed things  down. It was great to see all the variety of approaches and meet up with more 'new to me' painters. This morning we had a wonderful demonstration by Scott Christensen which he deveolped from one of his smaller works. If my pictures came out...(??)  I will post them in a few days.

Empty Easel & OPA Paint Out

Empty Easel today reviewed a few of my landscapes in todays post and that was a fun and welcome surprise. If you are not familiar with EE, you'll be happy to discover they have a wealth of informative articles and interesting artist reviews.
On another note, OPA had their first paint-out day yesterday and while it was overcast here in Coeur d'Alene, we had a beautiful and comfortable (temps-wise) day to paint. Here are 3 shots of the day. I am posting my second painting, which was a white house with a wonderful turquoise roof that really caught everyone's  eye. We split up into two or three groups and didn't lack for material. No time for me to go out this AM, but this afternoon, I'll be painting and hope we won't be dodging rain drops!

Yellow Delicious

Yellow Delicious   oil    8.5 x 6
This is not only one of my favorite subjects, but one of my favorite set ups and I've sketched it in a variety of ways from this same photo that I took quite awhile ago. It's not the season yet, but I am drawn over and over to the the round shape that both blends and isolates itself in the leaves and shadows.

The Yard Guard

The Yard Guard  9x9" oil
This week ends up with this proud red and blue/black rooster guarding hen house. Most of my day though, went to saving several email folders that disappeared ( ! ) and it always takes me about twenty steps to work out what to do trying to 'fix' or recover computer things. I needed a guard like this to protect my files I guess !!??!!

Pansy Sketch

Pansy Sketch 7"x9" oil
So, I had to break out and use some color today. A new order of linen came and the surface is a little different than my last. It will take some getting used to, but I've been seeing the lovely jewel tones of pansies all over and they seemed a good way to start.
Remember to sign up for my monthly newletter, for a chance to win a painting. It will be sent out Thursday... let me know if you didn't get yours....I'll send it right out
