Over the Edge

Over the Edge   9"x 9"  oil
In Kodiak, Ak, I took some shots while walking a path through the woods, with a friend. We were on the edge of the trail with the water down below. I thought I'd challenge myself with this unusual view and I coupled that with a rougher linen surface than usual. The results were softer than intended, but still interesting.

Greenhouse Geraniums

Greenhouse Geraniums  9"x 9"  oil  $200
Back yesterday and painting today. Thought I'd start with this wonderful splash of color from a greenhouse window, where these geraniums were wintering over. A nice reminder of color to come.....eventually.....I'm pretty sure......

Building Up

I need to be away for about a week and will be showing work from previous posts for awhile. Hope you enjoy my look back .....

Building Up oil 11"x 14"  sold
This is a plein aire painting done last spring. The clouds were building all afternoon and sure enough, we had rain by dinner. It was interesting to watch the sky progress through it's myriad of wild shapes throughout the day. This was at Douglas Lake Ranch in B.C. Canada. Pin It

Soft Sky

Soft Sky 9"x 9" oil     sold
I need to be away for about a week and will be showing work from previous posts for awhile. Hope you enjoy my look back .....

I usually don't work with such a high key palette, but thought I'd experiment a bit. So here I have close values and an almost monochromatic color scheme. An interesting change, and I guess sometime change is good?

Pellegrino & Pansies

I need to be away for about a week and will be showing work from previous posts for awhile. Hope you enjoy my look back .....
Pellegrino & Pansies   8"x 6"  oil  $125
We've been working our way through a case of sparkling water and I kept thinking about painting one of the bottles. They are a really nice clear green that has alot of pthalo blue in it. I may try it again using more color contrast next time.

Oil Demonstration- Peony Floral

I was inspired by fellow DPO painter, Carolyn Finnell to try making a slideshow demonstration of a painting. If you click the link below this painting you should be able to see it on YouTube. I'm pretty satisfied with most of it, though the images could be sharper perhaps and the format is kind of squashed!. Well, maybe experience will help...!

untitled floral-detail

untitled floral - detail   oil
My intention was to post a larger work today, but it just hasn't quite finished itself yet! So, I am posting this detail of it, as a kind of "coming attractiions". I plan to post it as a demo, stay tuned... :)

Lemon Light

Lemon Light  9"x 9"  oil
When in doubt, I frequently go to one of my favorite subjects to paint... fruit branches. I worked with a limited palette here, cad yellow light, cad red medium, ultramarine blue and white. I hadn't worked with just a triad for a long time and it is a good excersize in bringing balance and harmony to a painting.

Blue On Blue II

Blue On Blue II   oil    9"x 9"   $200
Here's another take on the beautiful fishing boats and reflections at the harbor in Kodiak, Alaska. The red floats hanging over the sides created little visual "hot spots" and this boat had more of an ultrmarine blue cast.

Blue On Blue

Blue On Blue    oil    9"x 9"       $200
This is one of the fishing boats at the harbor in Kodiak, Ak. We were there is September and the weather was great, with clear skies. The huge blue hull of this boat created beautiful color and an abstract design I knew I'd enjoy paintiing.

Skylit Valley View

Skylit Valley View      36"x 36"     acrylic  sold
Today I'd like to announce the winner of "Sweet Pea Floral" my most recent painting give-away. Congrats go out to Mary and Glenn Grella and their painting is on it's way. These folks were chosen from all those who made purchases in December and I thank you all for your support. Winning something is surely a good way to start the New Year!
The painting I'm posting today is not a "daily painting" but a large work created for an event, held  in February called Works From The Heart. This annual auction is a fundraiser for the terrific Museum of Arts and Culture (aka The MAC) in Spokane. Included as well, will be Sky Glow . A work I previously showed here as a demo

Testing The Waters

Testing The Waters   oil on linen     9"x 9"   $200
I've been reminded that it's been a long time since my last fishing type post (yes, I'm listening Steve!)  ...and, I do enjoy painting fishing scenes, more for the fishing figure, than the fish. This was also a  needed a change of pace and a reminder that the snow will not last all year! This  is my husband fishing the Lochsa in the summer.

Stand Together

Stand Together     oil    9"x9"               $200
I found a title for my red truck post thanks to Catherine Jeffrey's comment :) today. "Retired" seemed appropriate for the truck and "retiring" the last day of 2010. Thanks Catherine. This group of trees in today's post seemed to be standing together against our current bitter cold temperatures, in the late afternoon. I tried for some warmth on a few light struck areas to balance things out.
