Little Red Hen-Demo

Little Red Hen  9x9"  oil

The current Daily Paintworks Challenge uses chickens as it's subject and I knew, I had to switch gears and paint this little hen. I love the color and quirkiness of hens and I also felt it was time for a demo. This second frame should run on it's own, without clicking to start. I'm hoping there aren't any hitches with it, but let me know if there are, and I might be able to re-work it. I will also post on DPW with many other grand chicks! Just one more thing- in this photo, not matter what I do, this hen looks like she's smiling! The actual painting does not have her looking so jovial -haha!

  4. This is beautiful! I love the looseness of your brushstrokes. The browns and greens in the foreground and the way you applied them really add a lot of energy to the piece. Very nice!

  7. Mary, this is my favorite chicken so far of the challenges I've seen. I love the color palette, and the way they kinda make a circle. My eyes are trapped in the painting going round and round! Very nice. Your slide show makes it look so easy! Thanks for sharing that. Hey...what are those clips I see???

  9. Hi Karen, Thanks so much, the competition is great with those chickens, so I appreciate it!Here's the deal on the clips...I use a linen panel that I prepare by using Miracle Muck to adhere to a hardboard panel. If I don't have a panel prepared, I cut the linen and clip it to the panel, then paint. After, it's touch dry,I follow through with the gluing. So, the clips you see are the little wire kind that you can find at dollar store or in kitchen supplies sometimes.I also like the mini clothespins that are in the craft sections of some places. Hope this isn't TMI as the kids say :)...thanks everyone, Mary
