Lemon Light

Lemon Light  9"x 9"  oil
When in doubt, I frequently go to one of my favorite subjects to paint... fruit branches. I worked with a limited palette here, cad yellow light, cad red medium, ultramarine blue and white. I hadn't worked with just a triad for a long time and it is a good excersize in bringing balance and harmony to a painting.

I love your fruit branch paintings too Mary. Do you have a photo reference for all of them or have you just painted them so often you can do it from your "head"?

Beautiful! I love the palette you chose. Another painting I would love to see in person! :-)

Hi Denise and thanks all for your lovely comments. I do have photo references for all of my fruit branches and sometimes use the same ones in different ways of cropping,or light effects.

That's so cool to have photos of fruit on trees! I need to start taking my camera everywhere I go to build up a supply of good reference photos. I have a lot of landscape ones but nothing like fruit on trees. Guess I will have to wait for some of this snow to melt first and for Spring and Summer!
