Art Appreciation?

Art Appreciation?   9"x9"    oil SOLD
My husband fishes a lake on farm land and I have periodically gone with him to paint. These two watched while set up my easel and stayed for awhile watching me paint! I won't pretend they stood still for the entire portrait, but long enough to get the big idea and some photos to finish at home :)

Art I Aftermath

 Art I Aftermath 8"x6" oil
Several years ago, I did a series, in watercolor, using the messes my students made during various art assignments. I re-visit that subject periodically and thought I'd try this little oil sketch for today's post.

Poppy Jar

Poppy Jar  10"x8"   oil
I liked the square, chunky shapes of these two paired together, though it's an unusual color scheme for me to use. My favorite part is the red/pink reflection off the jar edge. Pin It

Diana's Daylilies

Diana's Daylilies   8x8"   oil
My sister has a great eye for color and design which is always evident in her house and yard, even though she juggles about 500 other things each day! This is just one little vinette in her lovely back garden and one day I'll paint her amazing arched clematis vine. She's the best :)

Garden Decor

Garden Decor  9x9"   oil on linen panel
A yard sale nearby had wonderful yard decorations as though they were going to be having a party. The colorful tables and flowers really livened up the space and the little birdhouse was a nice touch in the background. Perfect for paintng.
If you are interested in this or other works, please email me at or visit my Etsy shop  -thanks!

Pellegrino & Poppies

Pellegrino & Poppies  12x9"   oil
I've been wanting to re-visit the pellegrino water bottle using a different color scheme and did so here with these red-orange poppies. I think I like the floppy stemmed flower lying against the bottle, best. Just the unusual take on it, I guess.

Single Stem

Single Stem      9x9"   oil
Thanks to all of you who visit and take the time to submit such fun comments.  They're always much appreciated! My shopping subjects are giving way this time to a little set-up of this single daisy stem. Very summer-like I hope.

Armed To Shop

Armed To Shop   8x6"   oil
This purse looked fun and seriously ready for a big shopping excursion. I'll bet she has it all there with a bit of room to spare!

In Full Swing

In Full Swing    8"x9"   oil
This was a mannequin painted in a color like bittersweet chocolate and the sculptured ponytail made for a beautiful shape to paint. It was up on a pedestal with ceiling lights creating a warm glow on the walls. Together, it made for an image I couldn't pass up.

Twin Blooms

Twin Blooms  12"x9"  oil SOLD
I've been out of net range for the last few days but am now able to post this set of sunflowers that looked like either twins or sisters. They were the same height, size and bowed at the same angle! I tried offsetting them with the 3rd smaller flower at mid range to give some variety.

Just Looking

 Just Looking     8x6"   oil
Sometimes I do a bit of people watching as I shop as we all probably do. The indecision of this figure and the drape of her sweater was what caught my eye here. Maybe I'll find a few more shopping subjects in the near future. I have several more in my April 26 to May 5 posts.

Peony Bunch

Peony Bunch   9"x9"   oil SOLD
A change of palette and flower for today,  I enjoyed paintting the soft whites that are not really white but reflect so much of their surrounding light and color.

Fushia    10"x8"    oil
From the conservatory at Manito, the fushia were so lush and every blossom seems to grab the attention. In painting just a few, I am trying for a stronger effect, especially in this small painting.

Manito Iris II

Manito Iris II  8"x 6"   oil
This is another of the stately Iris at Manito Park. The rich color palette there could keep me painting for quite a while. This was mid-day lighting, but I need to go see what late or early day light would be as well. I hope you're all checking out and enjoying the new DPO site. If you haven't seen it yet just click on the slideshow.

Hot Pink Hollyhocks III

Hot Pink Hollyhocks III   12"x12" oil
This is the third of the triptych and I am pleased with the way they visually work together and individually. I'll try this again sometime, it's a fun approach.

Hot Pink Hollyhocks I

Hot Pink Hollyhocks    12" x 12" oil
I wanted to work with a triptych of hollyhocks, some of my favorite flowers. I will post the other two in the next couple of days and was looking for a soft, close view that would draw the eye to the color as much as the flower itself. Also. I am very excited to be a member of a new daily painters group, Daily Painter Originals. Just click on the slideshow for your first glimpse of our new venture. We all hope you'll love it!

Manito Iris

Manito Iris     8"x6"   oil SOLD
Finally a sunny day, and a friend and I were able to enjoy the some of the flowers in bloom at Manito Park in Spokane. The lilacs were gone and the roses not yet in bloom, but the Iris were at their best.
