Gardener

Gardener     12x12"     acrylic
I love gardens, but if I were always working in a garden or our yard (like I should)....I'd never have time to paint!! Or, at least that's what I tell myself. This hard worker was at Manito Park in Spokane. It was done with an underpainting of an orange/pink color that I grayed down to use as a ground. I did an umber drawing first, blocked in shadows next, then painted over with color mixes.

  1. Great job, Mary! Really rich shades of greens. The figure of the gardener adds the perfect touch of interest to the painting.

I agree that trying to keep up a garden takes time away from painting. And I also like to cook. Just not enough hours in the day to do everything we'd like.

  2. Mary - This is a very nice painting. The gardener looks to be very content working in this scene.

  3. I like the hint of the buildings at the top of the painting and all those colorful flowers. The gardner is beautifully painted with her hard working gesture. And, as always, your color palette is lovely.

  5. This has to be one of my all-time favorites, Mary. What a great figure/landscape combo! I feel the same way - that's why my 'garden' looks like a halloween set this time of year!
